I Know, I Know…

I’ve been very absent lately. Are you still there? How have you been?

I’m alright, I just haven’t really had much of anything to say, or when I have things to say I just don’t feel like voicing them.

As you may have noticed (well if you leave your feed reader) I have changed the theme, there wasn’t really anything wrong with the old one but I wanted a change. Even if it isn’t a change that I see, just knowing there is a fresh look is nice. Plus I thought it might entice me to write more often. Do let me know what you think about it, if it needs tweaks or you want to see something added/removed, or if you hate it entirely. (Though if you hate it you have to at least show me a more appealing option.) I’ve added a feed from my twitter to the sidebar, and may place a few other things in there when I think of them. Anything you’d like to see?

What else is new?

I finally got a new phone, by leaving my previous carrier. They had no phones I wanted and I knew I could get the one I wanted by leaving. I’m pretty happy with it so far. We’ll see how it goes. :)

I’ve been reading through the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris, which you might have noticed if you follow my reading lists down in the footer. I’m really enjoying them, plus the first book was turned into the True Blood series on HBO and it very entertaining. I’ve also started reading Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum novels, which are good so far. Though it is really funny reading books that are from the 90s, the fashion descriptions alone are hilarious.

Work is work, we’re slowing down to a crawl which is becoming rather painful, but what can you do. I can’t exactly afford to take the entire summer off, though I wish I could. :)

Hmmm, I can’t really think of anything else at the moment. Life is pretty quiet, which doesn’t really make for very exciting blogging. I’ll do my best to be a little more present though if I can. Hopefully something interesting will come along for me to blog about.

Things I Forgot To Do Today Because I Was Reading A Book

- Laundry

- Going for a run with Indigo Eve

- Going to the grocery store

- Showering

- Sorting through a bunch of clothes and deciding what needed to go to the thrift store

- Possibly other things that I have forgot I have forgotten

Yeah so today was mostly a write off in the ‘accomplishing things before the start of the week’ department but I enjoyed finishing The Queen’s Fool by Philippa Gregory. I cant really complain about getting to spend an entire day reading a book I enjoy. :)

Weekend Wasted?

November is feeling like a month that I am going to look back on and think “I accomplished nothing”. The problem being that there really is a lot I could or should accomplish. I know it is rather defeatist to think this only 11 days into the month but I can already see the pattern forming.

Having nothing I could do at work I took a long weekend, hoping that when I go back in tomorrow I will have work to do. This long weekend though turned into days of me sleeping late (very late), and puttering about.

I did do a few things, but none of the things on my list. Indigo Eve tried to appease my guilt on this matter by saying it was my weekend and therefore no accomplishments were required. I could abide by that sentiment if it weren’t the for the laundry list of things that I can only accomplish in my time off that I spent the weekend avoiding.

In the end it comes down to me feeling like I am more often than not avoiding the things I have to do of late. Allowing myself to be distracted by television or the internet when I could be re-arranging the house to get rid of clutter or this month working on my NaNoWriMo novel, which by the way is NOT going very well.

The only thing I feel I accomplished this weekend was finishing Sepulchre by Kate Mosse which I have been reading for months now. I don’t know when the last time 544 pages have taken me so long to finish. Especially when it was a book I actually really enjoyed. I’m glad to be done though so I can start something new, I have many many books left on my shelves still, and had hoped to cross more off the list this year then I have.

I can hear you thinking, that I probably accomplish a lot more than I realize I do. You are probably right. For instance I started week 3 of my walk/run program yesterday, that is an accomplishment for sure. It is just hard to appreciate those when the ones sitting in front of me on a daily basis are being ignored, like the office furniture that has been sitting in my living room for over two months now.

Perhaps this is the turning point though, maybe putting to page the annoyance I have at myself for not being more proactive will prompt me to follow through on some things. One can hope.

At the very least I got to spend a truly decadent weekend, all that was missing was a trip to the spa. Now maybe I should go and try to type at least this many words for NaNoWriMo. :)

Enjoying My Weekends

September 2nd will mark the end of my long weekends. I will be changing jobs and therefore losing my Fridays off. I am going to miss them, there is something lovely about only working 4 days in the fall, being able to jet off for the weekend to visit people. I only have three left. :(

Next weekend I am hoping to head down and visit SS&R, plus maybe do a little shopping at MEC. I have a strange feeling that will be the last weekend I’ll be able to get away before the new job starts though because there will be a lot of work to do at the office packing up and moving files and furniture.

This weekend I went on a little shopping excursion with Indigo Eve but the rest I spent at home reading Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. It was the final book in a series that apparently MANY people LOVE, I enjoyed them. She is a good writer so despite the novels being written for an audience younger than myself I thoroughly enjoyed them. Also I think she finished the series up well by tying up the loose ends but also leaving room if she ever wanted to come back and write more about the characters.

Speaking of books I guess I didn’t mention while I was away I finished Steve Berry’s The Third Secret which centred around the Marian visions and the Vatican. Very interesting read, excellent for train and plane rides.

When I got back from my trip I finished The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory which I had started before I left but the book wasn’t exactly pocket (or sling bag) size so I left it at home and too the Berry novel instead. I very much enjoyed this book, again an excellent writer. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series The Queen’s Fool. Hopefully it is just as good a read.

Now it is late and I should really get to bed because alas the weekend is over and it is back to work in the morning. How was your weekend?

From Fantastical To Historical

Last night I finished the Kelley Armstrong book, Broken, that I was reading. I’ve enjoyed the three books of hers that I’ve read so far, they are the perfect mindless books. Not to say that they are written poorly or aimed at the unintelligent, just the opposite. She has smart characters with real issues, she just throws in a bunch of supernatural stuff. :)

I have a long list of books I could choose my next read from but I decided to go with historical fiction in the form of Philippa Gregory’s The Other Boleyn Girl. I noticed that the movie has come out on DVD now, so I figured since I am interested in watching it that I should read the book first to be thoroughly disappointed by the movie. (It did only get 6.8 stars on IMDB – that is almost given fail for a movie – though it does look visually please at the very least.)

I am more so looking forward to reading the book because I love historical fiction, but also because I’ve heard very good things about Philippa Gregory as an author.

What are you all reading at the moment? Are you enjoying it?
